The Municipal Theater was inaugurated in 1841 with the name Theater of the Illustrious Community.
Throughout its history it has preserved its beauty intact. The acoustic excellence, the value and the elegance of the artifact, make it one of the most precious Italian theaters. Theater of Tradition, annually offers one of the richest agendas in the region with the seasons of opera, ballet and concerts, from autumn to late spring. The names of Mirella Freni, Raina Kabaivanska, Nicolai Ghiaurov and Luciano Pavarotti to whom the theater has been dedicated since 2007 are linked to the Teatro Comunale.
Thanks to an agreement between the Teatro Comunale di Modena Foundation and the Municipality of Modena and with the technical support of Modenatur, starting from March 2020, the theater will be open on reservation on Saturday afternoon according to a pre-established calendar of dates.
The guided tour, lasting about 1 hour, will allow you to visit, according with the activities taking place inside the theater: the entrance hall, the audience, the stage, the theater hall and also some particularly interesting areas and not normally visible to the public such as the Tailoring and the Scenography Room located on the top floor of the theater. The municipal theater is in fact still equipped with rooms intended for the work of specialized artisans and artists such as the ancient theater theater of scenography still active in its original function.

Upon reservation, for groups of minimum 15 people and subject to availability, visits can be organized on other days and times.
Part of the visit itinerary, in particular the Scenography Room, is not accessible to wheelchair users.
General conditions:
Cancellation by the Municipal Theater.
The visits will be confirmed upon reaching at least 5 registered within the day before the visit. If the minimum number is not reached, the visit will be canceled. The charge of the visit ticket on the credit card inserted at the time of booking will only take place if the guided tour is confirmed and activated.
The Municipal Theater reserves the right to cancel the visit in case of force majeure. In this case, the visitor can choose whether to receive a refund of the fee paid or alternatively a voucher of equal value to book the visit on another date or other visits of equal value.
Cancellation by the visitor
Once the ticket for the guided tour has been purchased, in the event of cancellation by the visitor, it will not be possible to obtain a refund.
For cancellations communicated to info@modenatur.it with at least a week's notice of the date booked for the visit, it will be possible to obtain a voucher of the same value as the canceled ticket in order to purchase the visit on another date among those scheduled or to book an activity of equal value on this site.
